icarus.

i think its interesting that there are certain stories that just captivate the attention of many.
the idea of flying too high out of... pride? distraction? feelings of grandeur?
and ones wings melting and falling to your death...

its such a beautiful idea.
so true to everyones story and so devastatingly tragic.

Icarus, my son, I charge you to keep at a moderate height, for if you fly too low the damp will clog your wings, and if too high the heat will melt them. Keep near me and you will be safe."

He kissed the boy, not knowing it was for the last time.

i say all of this because... i'm just recently beginning to notice that the stories i have cherished most are often cherished by the greater community as well.

i of course wanted to do an art piece at some point dealing with icarus... but now i'm discovering that there are tons of illustrations of the story.

i cant simply add another to the pile...

"feed the lake" great or small streams. (wink)

but i want to incorporate it at some point.

and its interesting to look at my reaction to not being the sole person interested.

is that NOT ok with me?

obviously someone wrote it. so its more theirs than it is mine.

and others have loved it for centuries....

so how can i claim it.

i think the answer is that we are supposed to claim it.

and fight for its ownership.

thats what literature is for.

they become our friends.
